What is a Write In? Why Go?
A write-in is an event where writers gather to work on their novels, providing a near-palpable level of creative camaraderie that helps push us to write more than we might had we locked ourselves in a room and written alone. Official write-ins are those organized by one of the region MLs (and are listed on our Calendar and Facebook with "Official" in the title). An unofficial write-in, however, can be planned by anyone, at any time. If a wrimo knows she's going to be writing at Generic Coffee Shop at 5:00 next Tuesday, she can post that in the proper thread on the regional forum so others can join her. If the event does not conflict with an official write in and is open to everyone, it can even be added to our calendar and Facebook event list to spread the word. See the DIY thread for more info.

Write-Ins have a social component as well as a work component. Expect some chatter, but everyone should also respect that many people come to hunker down and work together. And during writing activities, like word wars, talking should be kept to an absolute minimum! If you want to have a social conversation, please try to keep the volume to a more personal level or step away from the main writing area. If things get too loud, your ML will likely decide it is time to torm...*ahem* lead off on a fun writing activity, like a word war!

Our Venues
Thanks to the continued generosity of the Larry J. Ringer Public Library (i.e. the College Station public library), we will be holding many of our write-ins and most of our non-write in events there. The College Station library is located at FM 2818/Harvey Mitchell Pkwy across the street from A&M Consolidated High School (map). Two A&M bus routes (33 - Texas Aggies & 34 - Fish Camp) go near the area, but they both stop a few blocks away and are not available on weekends there are home games. For drivers, be aware that 2818 in that area a divided highway, so if you are coming from Texas Ave, you will NOT be able to turn left. Instead, go down to the light, turn left, then turn left into the driveway behind the gas station. All of our meetings will be in the large meeting room at the front of the library. If you arrive after the library closes, just come to the door to the left of the main entrance (it is painted the same color as the building, so may not see it till you get close to it). The library has free wifi available, and we will bring several power strips to help provide power.

Our second venue is in 204E Evans Library on campus! Wifi is available to anyone with a NetID and plenty of outlets will be available. If you are coming from off-campus, Central garage is the closest place for visitor parking. It costs 50 cents per hour if you park after 5pm. You can also catch the A&M bus if you have a TAMU ID (A&M technically no longer allows non-students to ride free :( )

Food/Drink
We are allowed to have food and drink at the College Station in our meeting room (but in no other parts of the library, please, and of course no alcohol :-P). All of the write-ins are BYOR (bring your own refreshments). If anyone wants to bring stuff to share, cool. The infamous bowl of candy will be there for those needing a sugar sure and sometimes your ML may bring chips and/or other snacky foods.

The CS library has drink and snack machines and there is a gas station/convenience store in front of the library that has pizza and other treats, as well as the usual convenience store offerings.

Evans also allows food and drink in the room, with a few restrictions: drinks should be un covered, durable containers and food should be limited to smaller snack items in small containers. No whole meals, delivery, or strong smelling foods please :)

The Schedule
You can always see the current event schedule on our Google Calendar (displayed in the forum info) and at our Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/BCS-Wrimos/103922363009552

Our write ins for Ringer will generally be Wednesdays from 6-9 pm and Sundays from 1:30-7:30. With the following exceptions/additions:

* An additional write in will be held on November 1st, 6-9 pm at Ringer to kick things off
* The final write in, on the 30th will run from 4:30 – midnight (yes, your MLs would love coffee!!) ;-)

The write in schedule for the campus write ins will be held every Tuesday evening from 7-10pm.

Looks good for me. I'll probably be about an hour late for all the Wednesday ones, but that'll still be great!

Well, that's sad...I can't do the campus write-ins...drat. I have choir rehearsal and Breakaway (usually) on Tuesdays! Maybe I'll be able to come once, though. Fingers crossed!

I might be able to meet on a couple of write-ins. does Evans have a system for non-students to use?

I'm not sure. I know they have a community library membership that's $15/year, but the Internet stuff is usually managed by CIS. From their page, it seems like guest accounts are only available if requested by a specific department/unit for a visiting guest.

TAMU has a guest wireless setup, but I don't quite know how it works. I can ask.

While this year has brought me around in a different position than last year, I really don't want to sit this one out. Don't know how many write-ins I'll be able to make, but I'll try! Great to see all of you again.

Hope you can make it so some too :-)
