The Other Footprints
"She places her toes right beside where the ribbon was tied, and looks forward with anticipation. Today, she will discover another 100 steps of her path. Smiling, her green eyes sparkling, she takes the first stride forward, and counts silently in her head, feeling the rocks and dirt crunch under her feet. At 47, she notices a beautiful purple rock, and at 83, she sees a tiny bird flit across the path, startled by the sudden presence of a human. At 100, she stops, and ties her ribbon onto another low bush. She then takes a deep breath and stands in the middle of the path. She holds up her Polaroid camera, and centres the path carefully, framing it exactly like the others."
