Excerpt

There is a bell ringing somewhere, is it a fire alarm? Maybe it’s an airstrike. I wake up slowly, realising that I have fallen asleep face down on the keyboard, My Anarchy account is still logged in although my character is parked sitting on our guild spot in Old Athens. The incessant ringing turned out to be my doorbell, I didn’t know I had one. I stumble towards the door trying to figure out who could possibly be on the other side. I look through the spy hole and see a nondescript suit standing there. I open the door a bit warily. Hi, I have come with a small gift from Björn, he’s looking forward to hear from you, the man hands me a small box and turns towards the stairs. Dumbfounded I just stand there with the small box in my hand. I amble back towards the desk only to realise I have left the door open. I sit down and rip paper open revealing the unmistakable casing of the newest S-phone, immateria. I gasp and feel my hands start shaking. This is where it is at, this is the phone that puts smart in smart phone. It has the processing power of an industrial mini and yet is contained in a steel casing thin enough to slip into your jeans pocket without showing. I open the box and take the thing in my hand, it’s solid steel, it feels just right in my hand. Tentatively I touch the screen ever so lightly and it springs to life in my hand. It almost feels lighter when it is on. It has no buttons or ports not even a power socket. I draw a deep breath, the ads claim that the immateria never has to be charged. What I hold in my hand is a small miracle in technical design and to top it of, it has not hit the market yet, this is a pre produced prototype. I quickly flip through the setup screens, barely reading the instructions, the contrast is to die for and the phones software seems to almost anticipate my touch, there is no lag or delay in any of the graphics it is instant. Do you want to continue? The ok button is pre-selected, I press ok and suddenly My vision goes blurry and I feel a stab of pain like someone put an icepick right between my eyes and with that the phone is inside my head. I gasp as my vision slowly clears and the pain fades into memory. I see a display of numbers and names scrolling past my eyes as the phones address book is filling up with numbers from my memory. I think I need to call S-tech, and the phone does. Welcome to the future.
