It's Camp NaNo!!! We have added extra meets every Saturday in April at the YHA Café on Tenison Road in Cambridge, so please come along and join us for bonus-write-in-fun!!!

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THIS YEAR'S MEETS
We have struggled to find suitable spaces for the pub meets and write ins that we can reserve for free. As a result, the locations we are using either do not allow reservations or can only take bookings 28 days in advance. If we do need to change a location due to a booking not being accepted, we will let you know ASAP. All pub meets will be at the Salisbury Arms and all write-ins will be at the Youth Hostel (both on Tenison Road in Cambridge) unless we let you know otherwise. We will put a note here, as well as updating the calendar and Facebook, but please do be aware that the location may have to change unexpectedly!

Many thanks in advance for your patience and understanding :)

Reminder - the next write-in will be on SUNDAY 5th JUNE from 10am-2pm at Scholar's Café, in the YHA building on Tenison Road, Cambridge. Hope to see you there!

Cambridge Beer Festival - one week only!

The pub meet on 25th May will be moved from the Salisbury Arms to the Cambridge Beer Festival on Jesus Green, hope to see some of you there!

Change in write-in venue!
Our usual meeting place, CB2, has had a change in policy over charging for room reservations. We're going to be trying out a few places looking for a permanent home. The first place we're trying out is the Scholars cafe at the YHA in Cambridge, this coming Sunday from 10AM-2PM. Hope to see you there!

If anyone would like to comment on their experience of doing NaNo this year, lamuella and I have put together a short survey:

All feedback is anonymous and you don't need to answer every question if you don't want to! Thank you in advance :)

NaNo 2015 is nearly at an end! *wipes away a tear* Don't forget the TGIO party is happening on 5th December at the Salisbury Arms on Tenison Road from 7pm - all are welcome!

We will continue to meet during the fallow months, so if you start to feel the absence of fellow wrimos in your life, come along to a write in or pub meet! We meet at CB2 on the first Saturday of each month (except December) from 10am-2pm, or at the Salisbury Arms on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month from 6pm until late. All the meets are in the calendar below :)

Hope to see you at a meet soon!

Night of Writing Dangerously is a-go! It is happening from 9pm on 20th November to 9am on 21st November at Makespace in Cambridge (see post in forum for full details). Bring food, cozy things, any caffeinated beverages you need to make it through this full-on night of writing until your fingers go numb!

Someone asked for clarification on the timings of Write Ins this month, so I checked and then extended the Tuesday meets. For the rest of the month, we have the Library at CB2 (upstairs, at the back) booked on a Saturday from 10am-2pm and on a Tuesday from 5pm-10pm. Feel free to drop in any time on those days!

And don't forget, Wednesdays are still Pub Meet nights, so we will be gathering in the back room at the Salisbury Arms on Tenison Road from 6pm every week during November.
November is now upon us! All the meets are listed in the calendar (below the notes) and in the meet thread, any changes to the posted schedule will appear here :)

Don't forget - tonight is the kick off party at 7pm in the Salisbury Arms, tomorrow we have the first write in of NaNo 2015 at 11am in CB2 Café and there's the traditional midnight chatroom write in for those of us who just can't wait to get started!

Planowrimo is upon us!

With that in mind, there are four planning meets coming up, to help you prepare for the madness of NaNo:

17th October - CB2 Café 10am-2pm
20th October - Virtual Planning Meet 7pm-10pm
24th October - CB2 Café 10am-2pm
27th October - Virtual Planning Meet 7pm-10pm

(see thread below for more details)

We also have our traditional Kickoff Party at the Salisbury Arms on 31st October from 7pm, followed by a newly traditional Oh God It's Started Write-In at CB2 at 11am on 1st November. Hope to see you at one of them!

11th April, 10am-12pm, Cambridge Central Library 3rd Floor

Big changes afoot!

From March 25th, we will be experimenting with a new location for pub meets - The Salisbury Arms on Tenison Road. It's not very far from the previous spot (closer to the train station, for anyone coming from that direction) and has a shiny-new pizza oven, if you like hot bread and cheese! We've booked out the back room so we hope to see you there at the next pub meet :)

I'm very happy to announce that the wonderful lamuella has agreed to join me as co-ML, as the equally awesome lizz_88 will shortly be leaving the UK.

Lizzie, thank you for being an amazing co-ML and for sharing this experience with me!
Ian, thank you for agreeing to take the baton, I'm so excited to be ML-ing with you in 2015!

The final pub meet of the year will be tonight at the Cambridge Blue from 6pm. The first get together of the new year will be a write-in on Saturday 10th January from 10am at CB2. All other write-ins will be on the first Saturday of the month, again at CB2 from 10am.

The Write In at CB2 tonight (18/11/2014) will be in the front area upstairs, NOT the library!

We're almost to the end of Week One!!
Congratulations to everyone for getting out there and starting writing - even if you're behind at this point (like me!), this weekend is the perfect time to take a stretch, make a cup of tea, shut the dog and the kids out and sit down to some writing.

I challenge each and every one of you to find 30 minutes (or more!) of concentrated time to get those creative juices flowing and the all-important words down onto paper (or computer!) Write at home, or join us at a write-in at Cambridge on Saturday at CB2 from 10am, or Peterborough on Sunday at Bewiched from 10am.

Tomorrow is double-up on donation day, which you've probably just received a message about. If you haven't already, and were considering donating this year, then tomorrow is the best day to dig out the old plastic and make the donation. You never know, you could win an awesome prize!

Speaking of prizes, don't forget to check out the Sponsors pages to find some of the cool offers open to wrimos during November, and get details of winners rewards. Some of the offers expire on the 30th of November, so definitely a good idea to set aside some time to have a quick look in case there's something you're interested in!

Keep Writing!!

Yay, new MLs! :D The inimitable Jenny and Lizzie (who you may have encountered at various NaNo events) have agreed to take over as Cambs ML team - their details will replace ours at the top of the main NaNo site page sometime in late summer. I have no doubt that they will be *awesome*!
Reminder: new Cambridge MLs still required! The end of our ML tenure is fast approaching - so if you'd like us to pass your name to NaNo headquarters in advance of the new-ML signup period, you'll need to let us know ASAP (preferably by the June write-in).

Please drop us a message and/or intercept us at a meet if you'd like to discuss what's involved behind the scenes. One excuse attempted for not taking on the role was a dislike of morning meets - but as ML, *you* will be able to reschedule meet times/dates as convenient! Just because we've done things in a certain way for aeons doesn't mean you have to :)

Congrats to you all! Awesome job - even if you didn't hit the magic 50000 mark, the fact that you even STARTED this crazy enterprise is a thing of wonder. You should all be very very proud indeed, and give yourself a hearty pat on the back! /me applauds

REMEMBER TO *VALIDATE* BEFORE MIDNIGHT - or you miss out on the winners' goodies!! It'd be a tragedy to get this far and lose because you forgot. If you can't work out how, come into the chat room, we'll be happy to help. :-)

Final write-in of the year is at CB2 tomorrow - we've got the space until *5pm* this time around, so come join us! Still plenty of plot ninjas left if you need a last minute burst of inspiration, wordwars aplenty, and STRANGE SNAX for powering you onwards :)
Tomorrow's write-in (Tuesday 19, 1630-2000) taking place in CB2 *BASEMENT* rather than upstairs (due to doublebooking with some large formal event). Still plenty of space/power/wifi, however! I'll stick up an arrow sign to try to divert anyone reverting to usual-location autopilot & barging into the wrong place :) It's meant to be quite chilly tomorrow, so even though they've promised us space heaters, probably sensible to dress warmly just in case of drafts etc as well.

Write-in at CB2 on Saturday! As mentioned previously, a couple of things re: these Saturday meets:
a) Please DON'T arrive early! CB2 doesn't open until 0930 & they are liable to get grumpy if people traipse in before then;
b) Bring offline versions of your work, just in case - the wifi can sometimes be flaky.

See y'all there :)

Kickoff party TONIGHT! Everybody excited? :)

There will be an online write-in in the chatroom at midnight as well (after we've all returned from the party) - hope to see y'all at one and/or both of those. Let the wild NaNo rumpus begin!

Planning Meet #2 tomorrow morning (Saturday 26/10) - hope to see a fair number of you there!
For those who haven't been to one of these before: head upstairs & keep going until you get to the very far back; we've got the entire mezzanine area beyond the red curtain. And don't turn up before 0930, as CB2 isn't open until then :)

Prep meet #1 (Tuesday 22, 1630-2000) now taking place in CB2 *BASEMENT* rather than upstairs (due to doublebooking with some large formal event). They've assured me there will still be plenty of space/power/wifi, however! Wall space permitting, I'll stick up an arrow sign to try to divert anyone reverting to usual-location autopilot & barging into the wrong place :)

A-L and I are unlikely to make it to the meet tonight - we're both under the weather - but the table's still booked so there's no excuse for you guys not to turn up anyway. Hope you have a good time. :-)

Pub meet tonight is on as usual, but A-L is unlikely to make it and I'll be a bit late (prob. get there around 7pm and I'll have to leave around 9pm.) Don't let that put anyone off coming though, I'm sure there'll still be lots of other people there. :-)

Anyone who has won but not validated (i.e. does not have a purple bar) - might be a good idea to do it NOW! The site will be very busy & slow towards the end, and if you can't reach the validator in time, you won't count as having won despite your impressive wordcounts....

The validator thingy is hiding under the 'Edit Novel Info' menu link in the top bar.

...and as I detest sitting at meets all on my own, waiting to see if anyone else will deign to appear - one of the few remaining stickers from previous NaNo/ScriptFrenzy sessions is on offer to those who turn up right at the start :) < / bribe>

Welcome to all the new people! Coo, if that's what one regional e-mail does, maybe I ought to send out ten a day! (Only kidding.) Feel free to make yourself at home here, think of this as the calm before the storm, relax and chill out for a bit cos in a couple of weeks it's gonna get stressful. If you have any questions or you just want to chat, don't be afraid to start a new thread. :-)

August 4 write-in *cancelled* due to a perfect storm of coursework/injury/etc on the part of both MLs.

Feel free to still turn up & write at CB2 if so desired, however - there is nearly always space available, even without our official table bookings!

Tonight's pub meet (14 March) is still scheduled, despite the building work! Entry is down the side & into the conservatory via the emergency exit. If you don't spot any of the usual people about, just ask at the bar which table has been allocated to us for the night :)

turn *up* anyway. Darn keyboard, mistyping everything I want to say... :p

The pub meet on the 22nd Feb is going ahead as planned though both myself and A-L won't actually be there - we're nearly 300 miles away at the moment and won't be able to get there this time around. Our regular table is booked as usual so please feel free to turn anyway. Have fun. :-)

Hi all. Welcome to Nanowrimo 2011 in the Cambridge region. Please have a look around, then when you're comfortable, post a few words about yourself in the intros thread below.

Please note that the regional e-mail facility is currently broken which is why I haven't sent out a 'Woot, the boards are open!' message yet. :-)
