As we head into the last day of NaNoWriMo, I want to thank you all for participating, encouraging, lurking, making strange noises, over-caffeinating, dancing in your bathrooms (you know you did), and generally being awesome all month. Hooray to all of you!

Remember, this facebook group is active all year long, so feel free to keep chatting and encouraging each other in the months to come. Ellen and I will keep checking in and posting interesting writing-related things, answering questions, and generally being quirky, so be prepared!

Onward to more words/revision/editing/whatever you are working on next. Happy Last Day of NaNoWriMo 2016!

Sorry to have been out of touch folks. My house is in the path of one of the growing wildfires in WNC and I have been dealing with packing/moving.creating fire breaks by raking. I will check in more as I can. All the best - Paige

DOUBLE UP DONATION DAY IS 11/5/2016!

What actually happens on Donation Day?
Double-Up Donation Day is not just about raising money; it's also about a community-wide word-count boost.
Double your donation: give $25 and receive the $50 donor goodies.
Double your posters: give $100 and receive a second donor poster.
Double your donation (again): look for dollar matches from our friends and sponsors at key hours during the day.
Double your current word count, or whatever you normally write in a day.
Double your noveling karma by gifting a halo. Just enter a friend’s username and they’ll be sporting new profile hardware within 24 hours. (Be sure to use the #HaloSpree hashtag to spread the word.)

2016 NaNoWriMo - Hello humans! We are fast approaching this year's big event. A few updates for everyone:

1) Ellen Morrissey and Paige Christie are your MLs again this year.

2) We are not opposed to help in making this year bigger and better than ever! Do you have a favorite writing haunt? Library? Coffee shop? Laundromat? Bookstore? Let us know! We can approach such places about becoming listed as "Come Write In" locations! http://nanowrimo.org/come-write-in

3) Keep an eye out here and on the regional FACEBOOK PAGE (See links to the right) for updates on virtual, and live, write-ins. Yes, we have stickers and other goodies again this year! (Have you seen those NaNoWriMo Scarves yet? Droooool...)

4) Please take a moment to consider setting aside a few dollars to donate to the NaNoWriMo non-profit this year. It doesn't have to be much -- just a dollar or two -- but it can make a difference to a lot of schools and communities all over the world. http://nanowrimo.org/why-donate

5) If all goes as planned (cross all applicable body parts) Paige will be out of the country (and without internet) Oct 19-31 -- yes, flat AWOL! -- so Facebook/Forum posting might be quieter than usual during that time span, as she is the social media hound. But she has not abandoned you, and will be back cheering and supporting the instant she has USA WiFi again.

More news to follow as we get closer to the event!

Don't forget, everyone, CAMPNANOWRIMO.ORG is happening in April. Start planning your projects, be they editing or writing or beta critiquing. For those not familiar with Camp, it differs a bit from the Main Event in November.

For Camp, you can set your own word count goal -- anything from 10,000 words up! You can also do the event solo, or join/set up a 10 person online "cabin". Create an account there just like you do on the NaNoWriMo.org site. Check it out! http://campnanowrimo.org

Everyone - we have been talking, and we would be interested in keeping this group going year round. Not only to cheer everyone on through Camp NaNoWriMo, but to host a few Write-Ins throughout the year for folks. Would there be interest in that?

Just over 30 hours to go! Dive in and get as many words as you can. Congratulations to everyone on a wonderful month. See you all at Camp NaNoWriMo in April & July, and back here next November.

Hello all and welcome to the half-way point. No matter if you have written 600,000 or 6 words, you have been participating in creation. We hope you have been having fun and are feeling great. Keep writing, whether it's 1 word a week or 10,000 a day. :-)
One thing I love about NaNoWriMo is all the different levels of inspiration at play. For some people, writing 50000 words is as easy as breathing. For others, getting a few dozen or a few thousand is a huge accomplishment. The point, in all cases, is the process of writing, discovering that YOU CAN DO IT, on whatever level. Every word is progress and should be celebrated. So, whether you are nearing 50K or nearing 100 words...give yourself a pat on the back.

As a region we passed 2 million words tonight. Way to go people. Keep it up and let's all strive for whatever badge is next on your personal word-count list. :-)

Watching the chart...this region should break 1 million words today! That's fantastic. Everyone is rocking. Remember, every word counts. Whether you do 5 or 10000 a day, you have written. Keep having fun, everyone.

Hello Writers!

We are working on getting Come Write In Locations throughout the region. And setting up in-person write-ins as well. However, Western North Carolina covers so many counties,we will not be able to set up as many as we want, in as many locations as we want. As this is our first year as MLs, we are still getting our feet under us. As time goes on, we hope to make the region stronger and more vital.

Ideally, we will get at least one declared 'Come-Write-In' location in the following counties:
- Swain
- Jackson
- Buncombe
- Macon
- Haywood
- Henderson
- Macon
- Madison
- Transylvania
- Clay
- Graham
- Cherokee

That's what we hope for anyway! (easier said than done)

However, we won't be able to be present at all these locations and in all these counties -- full time jobs - ugh!

Therefore, if you find yourself getting together with folks in your area to create mini-write-ins, please let us know. We will happily add your mini-events to the official calendar and hopefully generate more support for each other this November.

Together we are stronger!

Greetings WNC NaNoWriMos!
We are your shiny new MLs for Asheville and Western North Carolina. Yes – there are two of us – double the fun, double the support and double the opportunity to get your questions answered. (One of us is a planner and the other is a pantser. We’ve got your backs no matter your style!)
We are both former NaNoWriMo winners with hopes of repeating again this year. We are also all about positive fun and support. Be on the lookout for silliness, happiness and general positivity. We have opened up the new Facebook Group which we hope to keep very active. Feel free to join up and introduce yourselves.
Currently, we are in the planning stages for November and we have some ideas we hope you all will enjoy.

Kick-Off Gathering:
• To be held in Asheville as that is where the majority of our regional participants are located.

Write-Ins:
• Live-and-In-Person Gatherings - in the works for Buncombe, Swain and Jackson Counties. We are looking to add Haywood, and Macon as well, so if anyone has suggestions of great and willing spaces, please let us know.
• Virtual Write-Ins – These will be happening several evenings a week via our shiny new Facebook Group.

TGIO Gathering:
• To be held in Asheville as that is where the majority of our regional participants are located.

Welcome to another NaNoWriMo Prep season!
