Final week of November! Write-ins scheduled for Sunday, Tuesday, and Friday. How is your word count?
I just passed the halfway point (25K) on my novel! I know, I know, I'm 4 days past the middle of the month, so I'd better kick it into high gear if I hope to reach 50K by or before midnight on the 30th. I'm not too worried about it, though. My Novembers typically begin with a lower word count per day and build to a higher daily number closer to the end. I hope to avoid having that 5K+ mad dash to the finish, but we'll see what happens.

Whether you are a planner, a pantser, or a plantser, planning is key to avoiding the last-minute panic that sets in somewhere between the point of procrastination and the final deadline. My plan to avoid that last-minute panic is to increase my daily goal to 2500 words per day so that I compensate for my current dismal daily average of 1320 words. If I abandon that plan and only keep going at my current rate, I will finish on December 8, 2018. To me, that is unacceptable.

What plan will you develop in order to reach a grand total of 50K by or before midnight on Nov. 30th?

ML-hosted write-in at 5pm beginning with potluck. Bring a food item to share, or just bring your appetite. I'm already in the building and the coffee pot is already on, so pop on over and join me at any time.

Those attending today's Belgrade write-in may want to avoid Frontage road, due to traffic concerns.

It's time to write like the wind! Good luck, everyone.

Oh, snap! I just listened to a voicemail message informing me that Preaident Donald J. Trump will be appearing in a political event at the Yellowstone International Airport in Belgrade on the same day as Double-Up Donation Day. This after realizing our first write-in coincides with Election Day.

That reminds me...

Dont forget to vote before you come to Tuesday's write in.

It is practically impossible to write any story of any length and in any genre that is devoid of politics. Write-ins can provide fantastic opportunities to engage with various perspectives, personalities, and crazy cocktails of core beliefs to deepen and broaden our individual understandings of the political impacts that shape our worlds and their characters. But it is all too easy to let political conversations (and squirrels on any other topic) dominate the entire event, thereby undermining the primary reason we attend write-ins in the first place—to write.

This year, let's respect each other's need to generate words for our novels. When the opportunity crops up at a write-in to hold a lengthy conversation that is precious and sweet, let's either table it for a later time or remove ourselves from the write-in for the duration of that conversation so as not to interrupt the brains busily broadcasting words onto page. Let's have the political conversations (and all the others, too) in a different venue, because they are necessary to building relationships and forging a strong local writing community.

If you need a ride to the polls on your way to our first write-in, let us know. Or to any of our other events. (I'll be starting a Transportation Matters thread for that, as well.) Just remember, even though we each have our own individual project to work on, this November we are on this crazy journey together. Don't stop believing in the power of community.

I believe in you. Let's do this.

Hi all!

My name is Heather and I am looking for anyone who might be interested in helping a local group in Belgrade with NaNo Young Writer’s Program. This is a local event happening through myself and a Belgrade Middle School teacher, so we are in need of volunteers.

If you are interested or would like more details, please contact me via NaNo mail or discord (bunnydapp), email (hblhodapp@gmail.com) or text (760.625.9467).

I would really like to pull together and inspire these young, creative minds!

Thanks!

We have all-day NaNo Prep events scheduled for October 20th and October 27th. Take this opportunity to develop a contingency plan for your novel. Check the calendar on our regional forum for details on this and all official scheduled events.

Good news! We now have a home for write-ins every Tuesday evening during the month of November. This will be our weekly ML-hosted event at the fellowship hall of New Beginnings Church, located in Bozeman on 15th street across from the high school parking lot and next door to the Bozeman Islamic Center. We have full access to the kitchen, WiFi, and electrical outlets, all free of charge (except the cost of bringing our own food/drink supplies). I plan to fire up the kettle and start the coffee pot every week, and will likely bring munchies to share as it suits my fancy. Refer to the official events calendar for more specifics (I'll update that as soon as I've returned to my computer), and as always feel free to message me directly with any questions or concerns.

Check out our regional forum. Chances are, somebody else feels the same way. See if they posted before you had a chance to. Tell us where you'll be writing and when if you want us to join you. Happy NaNo Eve! Are you excited? Nervous? Unprepared? Wondering how you're going to survive? Prepared for every possible contingency?

Sneak a peek at our regional forum if you haven't in a while. We've added a new thread to encourage remote participation in word sprints and similar writing challenges. Also, if you find your wordcount woefully lagging, do not despair. As long as there is November, there is hope. Avail yourself of our forum-centric writing incentives, keep your eyes peeled for word sprints, and for pop-up gatherings of WriMoose near you. Plan now to attend our final write-in on Wednesday, November 30th. If by that time you have already passed the 50K finish line, you can take that time to write more (if the manuscript is still unfinished), edit, or simply read what you have written. Just a few days remain--you got this!

If you're an early bird, don't forget about our write in tomorrow morning (Monday) from 7AM-9AM at Rockford Coffee (next to the Tea & Spice Traders downtown), and our Wednesday write-in from 7PM-9PM (and beyond) at Coldsmoke in the conference room. It's a good time to get ahead before all the Thanksgiving craziness sets in!

If you can't make it to either of those, I hope you're able to remain productive and enjoy your writing wherever you are. I hope you remember that even if you are far behind the word count, any words you've written is still more than you had when you started. Have a great week!

At the time I am posting this note, I am behind in my word count by more than 15,000 words.

The upstairs neighbors just parked outside my living room window screaming at each other, screamed up the stairs, slammed their door, and proceeded to scream some more. They are still screaming. I might need to call the police. What a way to start Week Three, after migraines, fever, and the presidential election having already interfered with Weeks One and Two. I am so glad there is a write-in tonight.

Speaking of write-ins, it's a great way to meet fellow participants in our area, and to receive a new burst of energy into your manuscript. Come to your next write-in prepared to write. Sure, we will drink caffeinated beverages, chat, visit, and receive little participant goodies from the goodie box, but we will also plunge forward into the Morass of Week Three, beating back the word count deficit and subjugating the Inner Editor for November Remains.

Hope to see you soon!

Events have been scheduled on the calendar, and more will be added as we confirm the details. Your intrepid MLs are finalizing arrangements based on the information we have so far, but we value more input to better serve you. In our regional forum we have posted a few potential days/times for write-ins, so join the conversation now if you would like to have some say in the scheduling.

Talk to us if you have any good ideas regarding write-ins. Suggest locations around town where you like to write, and we'll do our level best to incorporate them into the schedule. MSU STUDENTS: We need expert location suggestions for on-campus write-ins (so please help us out). Feel free to message any of us, or post ideas/questions in the forums.

If transportation is an issue for you, check the Transportation Issues forum thread--you may find someone ready and willing to assist you.

Thank you for joining us, and we hope to see you soon--either at a write-in, or here on the forums!
